Manhattan by day and night

First thing this morning we went up to the observation deck on the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Centre. Last time we went up to a Manhattan skyscraper's viewing deck was in May 2001 when we went to the top of the World Trade Centre.
Looking south to Empire State
Looking north over Central Park

It's not as high as Empire State but there is one thing you can see which you can't see from the Empire State lookout:

After a tour of Chelsea Market in the old meatpacking area, which included lots of tastes and small meals at a variety of food outlets and restaurants, we took the boat ride around lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

One World Trade Centre, aka Freedom Tower
The new Lower Manhattan skyline

Liberty Island and Ellis Island are still being repaired after Hurricane Sandy and can't be visited.

Brooklyn Bridge
After a final dinner with Stage and Johana and Johana's Dad downtown we drove around lower Manhattan and then went back up to the Rockefeller observation deck to see New York by night.

Midtown walk and Jewish dinner in New Jersey

After breakfast at Carnegie Deli we walked to the Chrysler Building via the Rockefeller Centre and Grand Central Station.

Scrambled eggs with mushrooms, and potatoes, Bacon and eggs with potatoes, Corned beef hash with a fried egg.

Breakfast at the next table. They put A LOT of meat in sandwiches here!!

The real Rockefeller Centre

The Leggo version in a nearby Leggo store.

Grand Central Station is 100 years old this year

The beautiful Chrysler Building

It's beautiful inside too

Home, the Manhattan Club on 56th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue. Fabulous location - Carnegie Hall is across the road, Central Park is 3 blocks away and Times Square is 10 minutes walk.
Went to a Jewish wedding celebration dinner in New Jersey tonight. The three of us were picked up in a stretch limo.

There was a magician at the dinner. He was amazing!!
And more dancing

Central Park and Carnegie's Deli

The wet weather has returned to New York with us but before it arrived we got the chance to walk around Central Park.
Imagine

Then walked past the Dakota Building where John Lennon lived and died.

Lunch at Carnegie Deli.

We shared a pastrami Reuben and a beef knockwurst with baked beans

You can see Carnegie's menu here:

Went to see a Broadway show in the evening, Pippin, a musical with amazing acrobatics as well.

Times Square looked fabulous on our walk home, especially as the weather had cleared.

Back in Manhattan

Had lunch in a small town near the wedding venue called Rye. Guess our sandwiches were made from Rye bread.
Then trained from Tarrytown down the side of the Hudson River, onto Manhattan, through the Bronx and Harlem to Grand Central Station
After checking into our new hotel - this time we are uptown - we went for a walk around our new neighbourhood.

Central Park

It's Memorial Day holiday today and they launched New York's bike share system. All over the city there are rows and rows of brand new bikes.

Fifth Avenue

Promotion of the "Punk - Chaos to Couture" exhibition which is on at the Met.

Watched a guy in the Godiva window dipping strawberries in chocolate sauce

Cartier store on Fifth Avenue

After dinner we walked a few blocks from our hotel to Times Square
