Old York

We drove up to York in the morning and arrived in time to have lunch at the "Hole in the Wall", an old pub near the historic York Minster, and next to one of the gates to the old city.

Nothing better for Sunday lunch when you' re in Yorkshire than roast beef with Yorkshire pudding.

The Abbey of St Mary, a ruined Benedictine abbey

A wet and cold day so after lunch we went to the museum and then we just wandered around the shops and streets, including the "Shambles", a street which has buildings dating back to the fourteenth century.

We went to Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant for dinner.

Iced olives and tapenade, and pea, mint, zucchini and mozzarella bruschetta.

Bolognaise tagliatelle, rabbit tagliotini and fennel sausage pappardelle
