The road to Udaipur

We were driven from Jodhpur to Udaipur today, a 4 hour drive on roads that varied from good to very bad. We overtook everything that was in front of us, at least half the time we were on the wrong side of the road and a lot of the overtaking took place on blind corners but that seems to be the norm here - a few toots of the horn to warn oncoming traffic seems to do the trick. We only slowed down for cows and judder bars.

We zoomed past horses, donkeys, cows, buffalo, goats, sheep, dogs, pigs, camels and monkeys.

The landscape varied from desert to lakes, bare fields to rock formations, towns to villages and a mountain pass to a deep gorge. We also went through an area of quarries and drove for miles and miles past businesses selling white marble slabs, marble ornaments, slate and mud bricks.

And for the whole journey there were people - walking on the road,  getting water from wells, shepherding goats and sheep, selling their wares and building fences. There were women and children carrying heavy loads on their heads and people, dogs, camels and cows just seeking shade.

There were trucks, buses, vans, motorbikes and horse drawn carts, all crammed with people.

Here are some photos we took through the car window:

  1. Recently we travelled to Rajasthan and the trip was amazing. We stayed in a resort and a hotel in Udaipur. The accommodation was too good and mouth watering food. Had a memorable moment.
