Cotswolds for lunch # 2

The girls did a shop in Cheltenham and then we drove south on some very narrow, steep and winding backroads that linked a few small Cotswolds villages that are well off the usual tourist map. Names like Slad, France Lynch and Miserdon, just north east of Stroud.

We were heading for "The Bell" in a small village called Sapperton, it's recommended in the Good Pub Food guide. We arrived at about 1.30 hoping the pub would be open. We weren't disappointed, the large carpark was almost full of cars, although we hadn't booked and probably got what was the last table.

Linden had chicken with sweetcorn puree, leeks and bacon. Cherry had the Longhorn beef burger.
Matthew had the battered haddock with mushy peas.

On the way home we went through a few more villages, including Painswick which has a churchyard with 99 yew trees. Legend has it that the 100th won't grow.
