A day in York

We started our day with a walk around part of the town wall. York has more miles of intact wall than any other city in England
A view from the wall

York Castle Museum has fantastic re-creations of Victorian Streets and shops.

All that remains of York Castle is Clifford's Tower

A walk across town, through the Shambles.........

..... and aboard a boat for a cruise down the River Ouse.

The Treasurer's House -  gifted to the National Trust by its last owner, an eccentric businessman named Frank Green.

To visit the servants' quarters in the attic we had to don hard harts and walk along a parapet on the roof. This was the only access for the male servants, rain or shine. But Frank had a lift installed for the female servants to get to their attic quarters. And when he retired he gave his chauffeur one of his Rolls Royces.
